This course primarily focuses on the concepts of W-CDMA, together with the protocol architecture, techniques and physical implementation of the UMTS Air Interface. The functionality and operation of each protocol layer is explained in detail with reference to its implementation in the relevant network elements. Descriptions of the overall system operation illustrate how the protocols interact in order to provide services to the end user.
Delegates who attend this course will acquire a good overall understanding of the UMTS Air Interface.
Why should you attend this course?
Delegates who attend this 3-day technical programme will be able to:
Describe the evolution path to 3G and the standardisation process involved
Understand the overall UMTS architecture and protocols
State the principles of spread spectrum and CDMA
Explain the UMTS physical layer principles and operation
Understand UMTS Layer 2 and Layer 3 architecture and operation
Describe key differences between FDD and TDD modes
Explain Idle and Connected mode procedures including security, location and intersystem operation
This
course will provide you with a detailed understanding of the
infrastructure required in UMTS network and its operation. A basic
understanding of GSM/GPRS architecture and procedures would be an
advantage.
