Course Detail
  • Duration: 3 Days
  • Price: €2145
  • In-house option only, contact us for details

Overview

W-CDMA AIr Interface (with HSPA) examines the concepts of W-CDMA (including HSPA), together with the protocol architecture, techniques and physical implementation of the UMTS Air Interface. The functionality and operation of each protocol layer is explained with reference to its implementation in the relevant network elements. Descriptions of the overall system operation illustrate how the protocols interact in order to provide channels and services to the end user – including HSPA techniques.

Topics, which include spectrum allocation and use, modes of operation, services, full protocol descriptions, procedures and techniques are all described in a clear, concise format to ensure the delegate acquires a good overall understanding of the UMTS Air Interface.

The course is intended for engineers and managers working with the UMTS Air Interface.

Why should you attend this course?

Delegates who attend this 3-day technical programme will be able to:

  • Describe the evolution path to 3G and the standardisation processes
  • Understand the overall UMTS architecture and protocols
  • State the principles of spread spectrum and CDMA
  • Explain the UMTS physical layer principles and operation
  • Understand UMTS Layer 2 architecture and operation
  • Understand UMTS Layer 3 architecture and operation
  • Describe key differences between FDD and TDD modes
  • Identify key features of HSxPA and how W-CDMA is modified in order to enhance performance
  • Describe the key way that HSxPA operates, and the procedures involved
  • Explain Idle and Connected mode procedures including security, location and intersystem operation
